Eighty-one PSJA ISD high school students recognized as 2023 National AP Scholars

PHARR– Eighty-one Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) students were recognized during a regularly held board meeting on September 11, 2023, for being named National AP Scholars.

Each fall, the AP Scholars Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated exemplary college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP exams by earning a score of 3 or more. In addition, the designation of AP Scholar with Honors is granted to high school students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher in four or more of these exams.

PSJA ISD had 81 students designated as AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honors, or AP Scholar with Distinction for the 2022-2023 school year. PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School students also submitted their AP Capstone project with the potential to earn an additional distinction. Students are granted this distinction by earning scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research, this year PSJA ISD had two students earn this certification.

Additionally, PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School had one student earn the AP Capstone Diploma. To receive this distinction, students must earn a 3 or higher both in AP Seminar and AP Research as well as a 3 or higher on four additional exams.

“I am very proud of our students. I know that it takes along with AP exams as they are very rigorous. It takes a lot of work, studying and being involved,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias during the Board Meeting. “These exams are accepted and recognized by colleges and universities across the state and nation. At PSJA ISD we want our students to be prepared to go out into the world and be prepared to succeed. Congratulations and thank you to our students and their parents for their hard work!”
