SAN JUAN – Representatives from the University of Texas at Austin’s (UT Austin) Impact Scholarship surprised PSJA Early College High School Senior Sophia Rodriguez with a $48,000 scholarship on March 8, 2023. 

The UT Impact Scholarship recognizes students who are making an impact in their community and covers the cost of tuition for the students’ four years at UT Austin.  

Rodriguez was presented with her scholarship as part of ‘Impact Texas Day,’ in which representatives from UT Austin’s Office of Admissions surprise students throughout the state with wards. 

Sophia Rodriguez, is one of eight students in the Rio Grande Valley and the only student from the PSJA ISD district selected to receive the Impact Scholarship this school year. 

Sophia is part of the PSJA Early College Program and will be graduating with an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in May, two weeks before her high school graduation. She plans to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.
