PSJA ISD, UTRGV to expand partnership to offer hands-on experiences for students in health care fields

PHARR – As part of efforts to ensure students have the resources and experiences necessary to succeed, the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) School Board of Trustees recently signed three agreementto continue partnerships with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The agreements with the School of Nursing Program, Educational Experience Affiliation, and College of Health Professions, will allow PSJA ISD and UTRGV to collaborate to create educational experiences for current university students and ultimately PSJA ISD students interested in health science careers.

“We are very excited to formalize these agreements with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley allowing us to continue to work together,” said PSJA Health Services Director Sulema Solis. “We hope these collaborations open up new opportunities for our students in the future.”

As part of the agreements, PSJA ISD will be providing UTRGV personnel and university students supervised access to patients for practicum rotations. Through the collaboration, PSJA ISD hopes to expand opportunities for students interested in health science to be exposed to tours, orientations, and hands on workshops from UTRGV.

UTRGV President Dr. Guy Bailey and members of his leadership team, recently toured the PSJA Dr. Daniel P. King College & University Center in San Juan as part of these efforts.

“Thank you to our School Board of Trustees for supporting these important efforts as we continue expanding our partnerships with higher education institutions, to ultimately provide our students with even more life-changing educational experiences,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo.
