EDINBURG – Continuing their mission of giving back to the community, members of the PSJA Education Foundation raised more than $250,000 during their 9th Annual Fundraiser Gala held recently at the Bert Ogden Arena.

First founded in 2013, the PSJA Education Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has helped enhance educational opportunities for the youth and families of PSJA ISD thanks to sponsorships and donations from PSJA Alumni, local businesses, and hundreds of district staff members through payroll deduction.

“Thank you to all individuals and businesses who made contributions and donations,” said PSJA Education Foundation President & PSJA School Board Vice-President Jesus “Jesse” Vela, Jr. “We thank you for your generosity, your belief in the Foundation, and in giving back to our students. You help us make a difference.”

To date, the PSJA Education Foundation has awarded more than $2.2 million to PSJA ISD students and teachers. Most recently, the Foundation awarded $341,000 in student scholarships and provided continued support to district-wide literacy initiatives with a $17,000 grant to the PSJA Library Services grant during the 2020-2021 school year.

The foundation's primary fundraiser is this annual concert where local businesses and PSJA Alumni donate to the cause. This year the event gave attendees the opportunity to relive the 70s with music from the Australian Bee Gees Show<> from Las Vegas. Additionally, attendees got to give during Virtual and Live Silent Auctions. All proceeds benefit students and teachers from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD.

“On behalf of our school district, we are so grateful to everyone in the PSJA Education Foundation for the tremendous effort made every year to raise money for scholarships and grants for our PSJA Family,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “Thanks to this work, hundreds of our students receive much-needed scholarships to fund their post-secondary education and our teachers are able to get funding for innovative classroom projects.”

In support of the PSJA Education Foundation, this year PSJA ISD will once again join forces as a district and community to host the 2nd Annual PSJA Family Virtual Day of Giving<> where individuals will be encouraged to make a gift, big or small, to the non-profit in support of these efforts. Individuals can support the cause by making an online donation anytime until November 30, 2021.

The non-profit plans to continue giving back during the 2021-2022 school year. The 2022 PSJA Education Foundation Scholarship Application opens Nov. 1, 2021, deadline is Jan. 30, 2022. All PSJA ISD seniors can apply. For more, visit<>
