PSJA ISD hosts ribbon cutting ceremonies for two new school/community parks
PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) hosted ribbon-cutting ceremonies for two new school/community parks on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021. The events took place at Carman Elementary in San Juan and Santos Livas Elementary in Alamo.
"We are proud to be able to provide these outdoor spaces for our students, staff, and community to be able to use," said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. "At PSJA, we strive to provide a world class education to our students. We work to develop the skills of our students such as team-building and wellness. It’s so important for our students to spend time outdoors."
The new school/community parks, a $2.2 million investment, include: exercise stations, walking trails, restroom facilities, canopies, basketball courts and playscape renovations, to name a few. This is part of PSJA ISD's efforts to promote outdoor learning spaces for students while serving the community by allowing these facilities to remain open after school hours.
Just last month, the district broke ground at three new spaces at Cesar Chavez Elementary in South Pharr, Cantu and Reed & Mock Elementary in San Juan and Alamo Middle School.
"We believe in order to be successful it’s important to invest in our students," said PSJA School Board President Jorge Zambrano. "Building these school/community parks is part of our efforts to provide beautiful outdoor spaces for our PSJA Family. Thank you to everyone who's played a part in making these projects possible."
