PSJA ISD student wins Business Professionals of America State competition,  among six to qualify for Nationals

PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) Senior Gia Magañrecently earned 1st place in the Interview Skills category of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Competition held March 2-6, 2021Magaña is among six high school students who will be representing PSJA ISD at the BPA National Leadership competition to be held virtually this Spring 2021. 



BPA is the premier Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office administration, and other related career fields. With 45,000 members in over 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico, BPA is a co-curricular organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering co-curricular exercises based on national standards.

Arredondo. “Providing competitive extracurricular opportunities like these are part of our efforts to connect all students with life-changing experiences and the resources necessary to achieve the highest levels of success. We are proud of our students and wish them the best as you represent PSJA ISD, the Rio Grande Valley and Texas at the National level. 


Magaña attends PSJA Sonia Sotomayor Early College High School, a special-purpose campus committed to ensuring young mothers continue and complete their education. She will be graduating with a Recruiter Assistant Certificate from South Texas College in May 2021. The senior is the third PSJA Sotomayor ECHS student to advance to Nationals in the last three consecutive years. 


In addition to Magaña, 23 other PSJA ISD high school students from across the district qualified to compete at the BPA State CompetitionOf these, the following six advanced to the BPA National Leadership competition to be held virtually April 26-May 9, 2021: 


1st Place in Interview Skills

3rd Place in Integrated Office Applications 

  • Josue Cedillo, PSJA Collegiate High School Program 


4th Place in PC Servicing & Troubleshooting 

  • Kevin Lopez, PSJA Collegiate High School Program 


5th Place in Python Programming 

  • Noah Gongora, PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM ECHS 


7th Place in CP++ Programming 

  • Joshua Reyestan, PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM ECHS 


8th Place in Advanced Office Systems & Procedures 

  • Cassandra Rios, PSJA Collegiate High School Program
