After participating in the 2020 Virtual Palm Awards back in May, five PSJA thespians have since been selected to receive the 3rd   Annual Palm Awards High School Scholarship.

The students were invited to pick up the Palm Award trophies they earned during May’s event on, Nov. 11 and while there, five PSJA students were given scholarships worth $500 as part of their individual acting award.

“We are so incredibly proud of our thespians for being among only a handful of students to earn these scholarships within our region,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “Your passion and dedication to these productions and to the fine arts will no doubt shape you into confident young men and women.”

According to Palm Awards Co-Founder Gilbert Zepeda, of the 12 total scholarships awarded to thespians across the Rio Grande Valley this year, five of the recipients hailed from PSJA ISD.

The recipients of the scholarships are as follow:

For Greeno, who graduated from PSJA Southwest ECHS in June 2020, being able to receive this award as he pursues his dreams at St. Edward’s University in Austin made him all the more appreciative of where he comes from.

“I am incredibly thankful to the Palm Awards and PSJA ISD for giving me a platform to convey my messages and push me one step closer to my dreams,” Greeno said. “I am forever grateful for the unconditional support I have received while on my journey and I will always be PSJA proud!”

Congratulations to all five scholarship recipients!
