PSJA ISD, Superintendent acknowledged by Governor Abbott during State Address
AUSTIN - PSJA ISD Superintendent Dr. Daniel King was acknowledged by Governor Greg Abbott this morning during his State of the State address. He recognized his work and support to ensure excellence at PSJA schools by providing avenues to get every student to graduate with more than just a diploma, but with the tools they need to excel in college and career. PSJA ISD was also recognized by the Governor during his inaugural address last month.
During today's event, Dr. King encountered PSJA alumna Alexis Saenz, a PSJA North Early College High School Class of 2017 graduate currently interning with the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives Dennis Bonnen. She is the recipient of the St. Edward's University Texas Legislative Internship Scholarship, which selects only two students for this unique opportunity.
"Being there today and receiving this acknowledgment on behalf of our PSJA ISD Family was truly an honor," said Dr. King. "It was also exciting to see Alexis, a proud PSJA alum on the House floor, as staff of the Speaker of the House, right in the middle of all the action. She has a great future ahead of her!"
Alexis received an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College in May 2017, before graduating from high school. She is majoring in Political Science at St. Edward's University where she played softball for the Hilltoppers for one year and is currently a university cheerleader. She is on track to graduate from St. Edward's in only two years thanks to the district's partnership with South Texas College. She will be receiving her Bachelor's Degree this August and intends to apply to law school in the near future.
"It gave me a big sense of pride and joy to hear PSJA ISD highlighted," said Saenz. "I always tell my younger siblings that they can accomplish anything they want to at PSJA. It is truly the right place to be."
