Carmen Anaya Elementary dedicates garden to the memory of community leader

PHARR - PSJA ISD's Carmen Anaya Elementary in South Pharr dedicated their new school garden to honor the memory of former PSJA Education Foundation President Joel "Joey" Gonzalez during a special ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, April 27.
Gonzalez family, friends and representatives from the PSJA Education Foundation joined Anaya students and staff as they remembered his work and contributions to the PSJA Family.
Through the recent years, the school has received funding through teacher grants from the PSJA Education Foundation for their garden.
"Teachers and students knew him well as he would surprise classrooms with camera crew and check-in-hand, wielding a brilliant smile, which emulated the joy of giving," read Katie Fernandez, Student Council Vice President during the event. "We are forever grateful for his commitment to excellence in education."
