PSJA Swimmer signs with Lindenwood University

PHARR - PSJA ISD Swimmer Joshua Velasquez signed a letter of intent to swim for Lindenwood University-Belleville today April 19 at the PSJA ISD Natatorium surrounded by his family, coaches, administrators and friends. PSJA Swimmer signs with Lindenwood University


Velasquez, who attends PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School, but swims competitively for PSJA Southwest ECHS, is a State Qualifier in the 100 backstroke. He earned 7th place at the 5A State Championship his junior year and earned a Second-Team All-State Award.


He has been District Champion in the 200 IM his freshman, sophomore and senior year and was District Champion in the 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke his junior year. He has also been a State Qualifier in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay and 100 Backstroke.


Velasquez is the first athlete from the PSJA ISD Swimming Program to continue swimming at the collegiate level. This is the program's fourth year. He will be graduating from high school with 15 college hours and plans to major in Exercise Science while at Lindenwood. His goal is to get his Master's in Physical Therapy.
