  • 7th Annual Tulsa Welding Competition

    The PSJA ECHS welding students participated in the 7th Annual Tulsa Welding School Torch Cutting competition this past week at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Showgrounds. Out of a total of 376 participants PSJA ECHS had a student who placed in the top 10. Diego Vela placed 3rd place and received over $400 worth of prizes donated by local vendors. We also had several of our students place in the top 20 out of the 376 participants. Congratulations to all our students who participated and represented our school with pride.

  • MIGHTY BEAR BAND HEADS TO STATE MARCHING COMPETITION

    The PSJA Early College High School Band made history on Saturday night by qualifying for the UIL state marching contest. The Band competed in Laredo and had a stunning prelims performance that resulted in the band advancing to finals. In finals the Bear Band had their best performance of the year and earned their spot at the UIL STATE MARCHING CONTEST. This is the 1st time in history the band has qualified. The band will compete at the San Antonio Alamodome on November 5th for the State Championship. Go Bears!!!!

  • BEAR GOLF TEAMS @ LA JOYA GOLF CLUB

    Congratulations to both boys and girls Varsity Golf team for placing at the La Joya Invitational Golf Tournament on October 19th and 20th. Girls placed 1st with a team score of 716. Rinelle Richie, Angela Martinez, Ronika Galvan, Abigail Martinez, Hailee Castillo, Nevaeh Reyes and Karime Medina. Boys placed 2nd with the team score of 692. Boys are: John Mata, Jared Rivera, Edgar Hernandez, Josean Barrientos and Randy Richie. Also placing: Rinelle Richie 3rd place over all, Ronika Galvan 4th overall and John Mata 4th overall. Great job to all the golfers and their accomplishments.

  • CONGRATULATIONS Trey Guajardo and Ariana Lazo for being selected as Rotary Couples of the Month

    Trey Guajardo plans to attend UTRGV where he will be furthering his education and playing baseball. Trey hopes to major in physical therapy. Throughout his high school years Trey has received numerous awards in football and baseball. He was recently selected as Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week , and received Class 6A Male Athlete of the Year in 2017. He would like to thank his PSJA family for always supporting and encouraging him. Ariana Lazo plans to attend Texas A&M University to major in agricultural science and eventually work her way into earning her PHD. In the future she hopes to work for the USDA in order to make a difference in the agricultural community and to literally feed the world. Ariana is an active member in her school community through her participation in band, cheer , drama, FFA and more. Throughout her high school career she has accomplished many things such as making All Region Band , advancing to the Destination Imagination Global Finals , selected PSJA FFA President , and Vice-President of Citrus Valley FFA.

  • Carissa Gonzalez receives Top 10 Finisher Award

    The Runnin' Lady Bears traveled to The Woodlands to compete at the Nike South Invitational Meet at Bear Branch Park on September 29th, 2018. Carissa Gonzalez (Sophomore) ran a time of 19:57.1 giving her yet again a 2nd Fastest Personal Best for the 2018 season. She placed 6th out of 210 runners in the Varsity Division giving her a Top 10 Finisher Award. Vanessa Sanchez (Senior) ran a time of 26:07.2 193rd place. Great job to our runners!     The PSJA ECHS Mighty Bear Band competed at the South Texas Marching Championships in Edinburg this past Saturday. The Bear Band had and outstanding emotional performance and was crowned 6A champions. The PSJA ECHS colorguard was awarded outstanding Colorguard in class 6A and the PSJA ECHS Drumline was awarded outstanding Drumline in class 6A.

  • Meet of Champs Carissa Gonzalez 5A/6A Girls Champion

    We are proud to announce our Runnin' Lady Bear Miss Carissa Gonzalez placed 1st overall at the Meet Of Champions 2018 hosted by the Rio Grande Valley Cross Country Assocation on Saturday, September 22nd, 2018 at Donna High School. Over 42 teams participated with 1,526 runners competing in Elite, Varsity, JV and Freshman Divisions. Carissa Gonzalez is a Sophomore returning Varsity member who placed 1st overall with a Personal Best Time of 20:22.7 averaging a 6:34 mile. Carissa maintained a strong lead over her competitors. The 2nd place runner came in with a time of 21:13.2. Congratulations to Carissa on her victory and accomplishments through out this season!!! Keep up the great work Carissa!!!

  • Lady Bears XC Ready for a New Year !

    The Runnin' Lady Bears Cross Country team competed at the Mission High School Invitational on Saturday, August 18th, 2018. Varsity Runners: Sarahi Cantu 24th place with a time 19:48, Vanessa Sanchez 48th place with a time of 21:48, Nichole Arguello, Alex Delgado, Celine De Haro. Junior Varsity Runners: Adamari Martinez, Brenda Aguilar, Jocelyn Ramos, Alisha Bazan, Audry Elias. Freshman Runners: Lesly Tinoco (10th place with a time of 15:08 and received a medal for Top 20 Runners) and Yuczzin Iracheta 28th with a time of 21:48. Our next Cross Country Meet will be the San Benito Dog Pound Invitational on Saturday, August 25th, 2018. Please come and show support to our Lady Bear Cross Country Team.

  • Freshman Early College Summer Bridge 2018

    All Incoming 9th grade students need to pass the TSI exam in order to take a college course . Students needing extra help to pass the TSI can register for the Summer Bridge sessions to prepare you on how to be an effective note taker , time management , communication and professional engagement. Aug. 20-23 morning session is 8:30-12:00 noon afternoon session 12:30 - 4:10 pm. Students need to attend all four days to take the TSI exam. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. TSI Test will be on Thursday Aug. 24th *9th Grade Students only*.

    The PSJA ECHS Bear Varsity and JV Cheerleaders were combined as one 37 member team when they went to Grapevine,Tx this past week for UCA cheer camp. They worked hard, had a great time and came back very successful! They won Camp Champs in the Gameday Division, Camp Champs in the Cheer Division, 2nd Place in the Rally Routine and most important to their coach, The Leadership Award, where teams are asked to vote for the team they would want to be on if they could. They received countless compliments on their kindness, their behavior, their willingness to help others and that is what makes their coach the happiest! We look forward to cheering in the fall!     Bears Skills and Drills Baseball Camp offers players the ability to learn proper fundamental throwing , fielding , and hitting techniques , along with drills that will provide their growth in the game of baseball.   • Daniel Hernandez accepted to prestigious Philadelphia International Music Festival's Solo Preparation Program

    Daniel has been accepted to the prestigious Philadelphia International Music Festival's (PIMF) Solo Performance Prep Program. Daniel Hernandez is one of only eight high school students in Texas and the only one from PSJA ISD selected to participate in the program taking place June 16-29, 2018 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The PIMF Program is a by audition only program designed for advanced student musicians, 13-19 years of age, preparing for upcoming solo performances or competitions. Designed for students prepared to spend 7 or 14-days in intense music training, this unique program includes: three-five weekly hour-long private lessons with world-class faculty, including principal players from The Philadelphia Orchestra and daily solo performance classes.

  • Congratulations Christian Rivera

    Christian signed a Letter of Intent to play football with East Texas Baptist University in Marshall Texas. While playing for the mighty Tigers, Christian plans to major in education and after fulfilling my time at ETBU, he will follow in his father’s footsteps and enter the coaching field. During Christians four years of high school, he was a three-year Letterman in track and football. During his junior year he was the leader in rushing yards and touchdowns and led the Sharyland Pioneer football team to it’s only district title within the school’s four years of existence. This allowed him to be named Honorable Mention running back for the 31-5A school district. As a senior for the PSJA Bears, Christian was one of the leading rushers on a team that had one of the biggest turn around in PSJA history. Along side with his teammates leading the way, this time he was named Honorable Mention running back for the 31-6A school district.

  • Class of 2018 Valedictorian Lexy Ramos

    Lexy Ramos is our 2018 PSJA ECHS Valedictorian. Lexi will graduate with an Associate’s degree in Mathematics completing 87 college hours from South Texas College with a 4.0. Lexi was Rotary and Kiwanis Student of the Month of September, selected to be her schools Border Patrol Head of the Class, a South Texas College Distinguished Scholar, and selected for the Ronald Regan Leadership Award. As senior class president, Lexi was involved in a lot of organizations in school by helping out in any possible way at school. Lexi is a member of the PSJA ECHS Children’s Show, Interact Club, and Cosmetology Club, Track of Hope and National Honors Society. After high school, Lexi will be attending the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio majoring in Fashion Design and minoring in theater.

    Congratulations to Denisse Godinez, Senior from PSJA ECHS who has passed her exam with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and has earned the title of NREMT-B. Denisse will be able to utilize her National license and certification and can immediately obtain a job working for emergency services or ambulance transport anywhere in the United States.     1ST Annual Lady Bear Basketball Camp for incoming 3rd - 9th grade girls. Pre-registration will be at the PSJA Girl's Coaches Office on Monday June 4th beginning at 8:00 am. Schedule for the camp will begin at 8:30 am with breakfast followed by 9:00 am camp.   • Lady Bears trip to watch the U.S. Women's National Team vs Mexico

    After a great season and making playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, the Lady Bears Soccer team celebrates by attending the Women's International game of USA vs Mexico in Houston Texas on April 8th. The team got to witness history in the making at the U.S team number 10 (Carli Lloyd) scored her 100th international game for the team. After which she stayed after the game to sign autographs and pictures.

  • Lady Bears Golf qualify for Regional's

    Congratulations to the Lady Bears Golf team,for their outstanding performance at the 31-6A district golf tournament. The Ladies finished in 2nd place, the team will advance to the regional golf tournament later this month in San Antonio. The Lady Bears had finished the prior 4 years in 3rd place, one spot short of the regional tournament. The Lady Bears were led by Emily Hernandez 6th place finish, Ronika Galvan 7th place finish, Rinelle Richie 10th place finish, and Angela Martinez 12th place finish. Other members of your regional qualifying team include Abigail Martinez, Hailee Castillo, and Nevaeh Reyes. The Lady Bears golf team finished the season as the 8th ranked team in the Rio Grande Valley amongst all 6A and 5A schools according to the Rio Grande Valley Golf Coaches Association.     Congratulations to the SkillsUSA Welding students who competed at the SkillsUSA State Competition this past weekend. Damian Luna won 1st place in the Job Skills Demonstration "O" competition where he competed against 24 other students from around Texas. Yesenia Ramirez competed in the Job Skills Demonstration "A" contest where she placed 2nd against 32 other competitors from Texas. Damian and Yesenia proudly represented PSJA ECHS and the entire PSJA District at this SkillsUSA event. Damian will now be advancing to nationals to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky to represent not only PSJA but the entire State of Texas.   • Lady Bears Wrestling Team State Bound

    Battlin’ Bear Wrestling Team was at the UIL Region 4 Wrestling Tournament. Competition was tough, but we were able to qualify 3 girls to the State tournament February 23-24. The following placers have advanced and get to continue their season: 119 Ashbby Alvarado - 3rd Place 138 Nancy Saldana - 2nd Place 165 Destiny Baltierra - 3rd Place Along with 110 Nayeli Hernandez who placed 6th, our girls found themselves in 5th place out of the whole region.   • State Qualifiers in TPSA Law Enforcement and Firefighter South Region Competition

    Congratulations to the Law Enforcement Team for qualifying to State. In this competition, the students learned how to do difficult police scenarios and say the right commands Law enforcement public safety would say in any real life situation; the students learn how to deal with high intense and stress situations but have fun at the same time. The TPSA competition is where students meet new people from other districts and asked advice from different peers. These teams placed 4th but Accident Investigation placed 2nd and is going to State Competition.

    Congratulations to the Rotary Couple of the Month Mr. Damian Luna and Alyssa Guajardo. Damian Luna is a senior , he plans to pursue a degree in Aeronautical Engineering at either the University of Texas at Austin or Texas A&M College Station. Alyssa Guajardo plans to attend UTRGV to graduate with a bachelors degree in psychology and then she would like to transfer to Texas A&M College Station for a PHD. Alyssa wants to be a school psychologist to mainly focus on elementary students.

    Our Law Enforcement students at PSJA Early College High School received their State Security Training Certificates today. The students had the opportunity to earn this certification through a Law Enforcement course that we offer here on campus. The students must be in a Criminal Justice Career Pathway and must complete shadowing hours as well as community service hours. The best of luck to our future Law Enforcement students.

    PSJA Bear Wrestling team attended McAllen ISD's South Texas Throw Down (28 teams). The boys team finished the tournament in the top 10 and the girls team finished 2nd overall. For the first time, the boys were able to submit 2 teams.
