PSJA ISD’s Record-Breaking 5th Annual Posada Brings Holiday Magic to Thousands of Families
PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) hosted its 5th Annual PSJA Family Posada, themed All Aboard the PSJA Express, on Thursday, December 19, at PSJA Stadium. The event drew thousands of families, making it one of the district’s largest and most festive celebrations to date.
The PSJA Police Department’s Toy Patrol Drive played a key role in the event, distributing over 2,200 toys to children on a first-come, first-served basis. This remarkable effort was made possible through donations from community members and staff across PSJA’s 43 campuses and departments.
“In the spirit of giving back, we are proud to offer free toys, games, rides, and more as a way to thank our PSJA Family and community for their support,” said PSJA Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias. “This event is a testament to the unity and generosity that define our district.”
The evening was filled with activities for all ages, including free moon jumps, a snow station, and hayrides provided by PSJA’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) students. Families enjoyed performances by PSJA Fine Arts groups, including mariachi, conjunto, choir, dance, orchestra, and band ensembles. A highlight of the night was a medley of Christmas songs performed by elementary and middle school choirs.
One of the most memorable moments was the Lighting of the Tree Ceremony, where a 20-foot tree adorned with sustainable ornaments and surrounded by a PSJA Express train took center stage. These decorations were created collaboratively by PSJA campuses and departments, symbolizing the unity and creativity of the PSJA Family.
“The turnout tonight is truly incredible,” said PSJA Board of Trustees President Diana Serna. “Seeing thousands of our PSJA Family come together to celebrate shows the strength of our community and the holiday spirit that thrives here.”
Attendees also experienced the magic of the Polar Express Station, hosted by Library Services and Dual Language Departments. Families boarded a bus to enjoy an enchanting storytime featuring The Polar Express.
The event showcased PSJA’s dedication to its community with over 25 food booths, a Holiday Gift Market featuring handcrafted items, and a variety of informational booths from district departments, including PSJA College Readiness, Counseling and Guidance, and more. Proceeds from sales supported district programs and student initiatives.
In addition to festive activities, families received free pantry items provided by the RGV Food Bank. This generosity was part of PSJA ISD’s ongoing efforts to support the community and ensure opportunities for all.
