Hundreds of PSJA ISD parents earn GED or College Certificates

EDINBURG - Hundreds of parents from the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) enrolled in the PSJA Parental Engagement Program were honored on November 14, 2023, at the Region One Education Service Center (Region One) during a special ceremony to recognize South Texas College (STC) GED graduates and newly certified participants. 

 

The PSJA Parental Engagement Program is made possible thanks to dozens of partnerships, including Region One and STC. PSJA ISD’s collaboration with Region One helps offer adult education courses, including English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education, and GED preparation courses. 

 

With the assistance of additional local non-profit groups, interfaith groups, workforce development, and economic development corporations, parents fulfill their educational needs and acquire more knowledge in careers and employability skills, entrepreneurship, and computer literacy. 

 

During the ceremony, PSJA ISD parents were recognized for successfully completing their GED or receiving a certificate in HVAC assistance, structural welding, nursing assistance, or pipe fitting. 

 

“With this ceremony honoring our parents, we have reached a milestone; we have more STC graduates than ever,” said PSJA Parental Engagement Director Norma Garza. “It has taken 10 years to reach this level. Thanks to STC, Region One, and RGV College for our collaborative partnerships. A special thank you to our amazing Parental staff and volunteer instructors.”
