Tell us your story! What hardships or challenges have you overcome to get to where you are today? How have these experiences motivated you to pursue your educational dreams?

Even as a young child, I have always considered myself an overachiever. To some, this might come across as being driven or ambitious, but few realize that being an overachiever can be more of a self-detriment than a super quality to have. The self-imposed pressure, the need to make all A’s, and the constant necessity to win first place are challenges I have dealt with throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school. As I grew older, I began to realize that I was setting standards for myself so high that I rarely allowed myself to feel proud of what I had already accomplished. No matter how much I accomplished, it was quickly replaced by the pressure to reach the next goal before I could fully appreciate the one I had just met. That constant cycle of pressure made it difficult for me to separate motivation from the fear of falling short. I rarely paused to recognize the progress I made before setting the next expectation. Over time, accomplishments felt more like a responsibility rather than a reward. Once I recognized this cycle, It made me take a step back and think about what actually mattered to me. In recent years, I have immersed myself in community service organizations such as Blood Cancer United Student Visionaries of the Year and the Greater Gold Foundation, where I realized that qualities such as humility, compassion, and empathy extend far beyond any trophy or title. I’ve learned that effort and achievement are important, but giving back to the community that shaped me holds greater value for both me and those around me. Rather than striving to stand above others, I now focus on uplifting the people in my community. This understanding has become the foundation of how I approach success. I push myself to grow not only through personal achievement, but through creating lasting impact for the community that has given me so much in return.

How have the opportunities offered at PSJA ISD, including the PSJA Early College Program, impacted your life?

The opportunities I have received at PSJA ISD, particularly through the PSJA Early College Program, have played a defining role in my academic growth and personal development. At PSJA Early College High School, I chose one of the most rigorous paths available by pursuing an Associate of Science in Mathematics from South Texas College, a rigorous path only taken by a small group of students in my senior class.

Pursuing this Mathematics degree at STC required completing seven college-level math courses, ranging from College Algebra to Differential Equations. The rigor of these courses demanded that I think critically and work through advanced concepts with mental discipline. In December 2025, I graduated from South Texas College with an Associate of Science in Mathematics, marking a significant academic milestone while still enrolled as a high school student.

Beyond academics, PSJA provided me opportunities to grow outside of the classroom. Through multiple leadership roles, I learned how to take responsibility, communicate effectively, and represent my student body with pride. In my roles as NHS President, Senior Class Reporter, and a PSJA ECHS Ambassador, I learned how to lead by example and serve others with purpose.

PSJA ISD prepared me not only in the classroom but also as a leader. My educational foundation has been built through the Early College Program and the wide range of academic and extracurricular activities has prepared me to take on future challenges with confidence. Because of PSJA, I enter my collegiate years ready not only with college credit, but also with the discipline and determination to succeed.

What, if anything, would you say to your PSJA Family?

If I could say anything to my PSJA family, it would sincerely say thank you for giving me more than just an education. From the very beginning, PSJA ISD has been a place where I was encouraged to grow and be supported every step of the way. From the care and support of the administrators at PSJA High to the teachers who never stopped believing in my potential, every part of this community contributed to my growth. Through academics, UIL competitions, athletics, and leadership opportunities, PSJA challenged me to grow in every area of my life. Whether it was Mr. Cuevas guiding me through UIL competitions or Coach Martinez teaching me discipline, positive attitude and consistency on the golf course, these individuals—along with many others—helped me grow into the person I am today. The efforts they put in each day shaped an environment where I could grow and take advantage of every opportunity.

Since the very beginning I knew I wanted to be a PSJA Bear and that meant enrolling in the schools that laid the foundation for exceptional education. From Pre-K at Caman Elementary, experiencing covid during my years at Austin Middle School and ultimately PSJA ECHS, I knew there was no other high school I wanted to attend. In addition, experiencing this journey as a third-generation PSJA Bear has made my time here especially more meaningful. Seeing multiple generations of my family—my grandmothers, my mother, and my sister, aunt and cousins—graduate from PSJA High makes my journey more personal. I take pride in being a PSJA ECHS student, following those in my family who came before me.

No matter where my education takes me, I intend for it to lead me back home to the Rio Grande Valley and PSJA ISD, where I hope to give back to the community that shaped who I am. I am forever grateful to PSJA, for molding me into who I am today and for opening doors to endless opportunities that made my goals feel possible.
