PSJA ISD Champions Excellence and Equity in Strategic Leadership Journey
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) has embarked on a strategic planning journey in collaboration with the Region One Education Service Center, aligning meticulously with the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) renowned model for school district excellence, The Effective District Framework (EDF). This strategic alignment signifies PSJA ISD's commitment to surpassing the standards set by TEA, focusing on impactful levers, essential actions, key practices, and success criteria.
The strategic planning process first began with the establishment of a robust Steering Committee in August 2023, embodying the district's core values of inclusive leadership and collaborative decision-making. Comprising Representative Leaders, Thought Partners, and Champions, this committee ensures a diverse range of perspectives, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within PSJA ISD.
"PSJA ISD's strategic planning journey embodies our unwavering commitment to shaping a future where every student thrives,” said PSJA Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias. “Together, we are forging pathways of excellence, innovation, and equitable opportunities for ALL."
The timeline of the strategic planning journey, which commenced in Fall 2023, includes four key phases:
-
Establishment of the Steering Committee: This foundational step set the stage for collaborative leadership and explored the rationale behind adopting the strategic planning process, in perfect alignment with EDF’s principles.
-
Engagement in Learning Labs: PSJA ISD engaged stakeholders in Learning Labs, collecting valuable landscape analysis artifacts and paving the way for Classroom and Campus Walks. This phase was crucial in understanding the current educational landscape and laying the groundwork for strategic initiatives aligned with EDF’s levers of impact.
-
Execution of Classroom and Campus Walks: Guided observations and reflections during this phase derived actionable insights, identifying priority areas and key practices aligned with EDF's framework for excellence.
-
Drafting of the Strategic Plan: The culmination of insights and priorities from previous phases resulted in a comprehensive Strategic Plan, encompassing student outcome goals, strategic priorities, and aligned initiatives. This stage involved translating insights into tangible actions and success criteria as outlined in the EDF.
Throughout this rigorous process, PSJA ISD's alignment with TEA's Effective District Framework ensures a forward-thinking approach tailored to achieve high-impact outcomes. Building upon its longstanding engagement in strategic planning, including initiatives such as Early College since 2008, PSJA ISD's rich history underscores its commitment to innovation and academic excellence.
Rooted in collaborations with The Holdsworth Group, TEA's Lonestar Governance, and numerous district-led initiatives, PSJA ISD’s mission of providing "opportunities for ALL" reflects its dedication to equitable opportunities for every student.
