#5 La importancia de la consulta de los padres migratorios/The Importance of a Migrant Parent Consultation
Session Description: ¿Qué significa consulta? ¿Cómo se aplica esto al papel de los padres migrantes en el Comité Asesor Estatal y el Consejo Asesor de Padres? El MEP del Estado de Washington compartirá su modelo y recursos para honrar verdaderamente la participación activa de los padres / familias migrantes en el proceso de consulta en la planificación, implementación y evaluación de un MEP. Los participantes caminarán con estrategias y modelos que pueden ser replicados para satisfacer sus necesidades.
What does consultation mean? How does it apply to migrant parents' role in the MEP's State Advisory Committee and Parent Advisory Council? Washington State MEP will share their model and resources to truly honor the active engagement of migrant parents/families in the consultation process in planning, implementing, and evaluating a MEP. The participants will walk away with strategies and models which can be replicated to fit their needs.

#7 Clases de GED gratuitas/Free GED Classes
Session Description: El Programa de Equivalencia de Escuela Secundaria (HEP) es un programa académico diseñado para satisfacer las necesidades especiales de los trabajadores agrícolas en busca del certificado de Equivalencia de Escuela Secundaria. Servicios que ofrece HEP: clases gratuitas de GED con diferentes horarios durante la semana, clases en inglés y español, en persona o virtuales, útiles escolares, actividades educativas/culturales, programa de computadoras, orientación profesional y muchos más.
The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is an academic program designed to meet the special needs of migrant and seasonal farm workers in pursuit of the High School equivalency certificate. Services that HEP offers: free GED classes with different schedules during the week, classes in English and Spanish, in-person and remote, school supplies, educational/cultural activities, a computer loan program, career orientation, and much more.

#8 Summer Programming That's Rigorous but Flexible
Session Description: Michigan has taken what it learned from the pandemic and continued to make our summer program more adaptable to meet the needs of our migratory families. The session will be a preview of a more in-depth session that will be presented at NASDME on how three of our summer migrant education programs meet the unique needs of our migratory children through rigorous, creative, and flexible programming.

#9 My Teacher's Toolbox
Session Description: The My Teacher's Toolbox session will focus on teaching strategies that will add to any teacher's toolbox. These strategies will incorporate listening, speaking, reading, and writing elements to help teachers facilitate learning for all learners.

#10 Supporting Student Success
Session Description: The purpose of this training is to empower our migrant staff by strengthening their understanding of graduation requirements and use of the Texas-New Generations System (TX-NGS) reports in order to provide needs-based services. Participants will learn how TX-NGS reports can be utilized as a tool during coordination and collaboration with school counselors as well as conferencing with students and parents. Participants will also learn how TX-NGS reports and supporting documentation can be used to monitor students and ensure their academic success. Skills learned throughout this session will support migrant staff in achieving their goals of the Texas Migrant Education Program.

#11 Criando a nuestros hijos con mentalidad universitaria ¡Porque nunca es demasiado temprano para comenzar!/Raising Our Children College-Minded Because it is never too early to start!
Session Description: El plan de ir a la universidad debe hacerse en familia lo más temprano posible. Esto no sólo ayudará a ahorrar dinero y no depender solamente de ayudas financieras, sino también permite preparar un ambiente en nuestro hogar para encaminar a nuestros hijos a la universidad. En esta sesión, los padres aprenderán consejos para motivar y preparar a sus(s) hijo(s) para la universidad, incluso antes de que comience la escuela o a edad temprana. Aprenderán lo que debe hacer su hijo durante su paso por la escuela, en especial en la preparatoria para reunir los créditos necesarios y poder entrar a la universidad e incluso obtener una beca.
The plan to attend college should be a decision made by the family as early as possible. This will not only help save money and not depend only on financial aid but also allows us to prepare an environment in our home to direct our children to college. In this session, parents will learn tips for motivating and preparing their child(ren) for college, even before school starts or at an early age. They will learn what their child must do during his/her time in school, especially in high school to gather the necessary credits to be able to enter college and even get a scholarship.

#16 2023 TX MEP ID&R Dashboard
Session Description: Matt Flaherty and Jose Sanchez from Arroyo Research Services will present information on the 2023 TX MEP ID&R Data Dashboard. In this session, Matt and Jose will review the different features of the dashboard and how MEPs throughout Texas can use the information to inform ID&R efforts. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the dashboard and download information to help them identify migratory children in their areas.

Session Description: Migratory parents are always looking for resources to help support their children's education. This session will provide an overview of the following digital resources available to support migratory parents and families: (1) Texas Migrant Education Program (TMEP) Portal - online resources specifically for parents and families, (2) Education Resources for Parents of K-12 Migratory Children - Literacy resources for home use, (3) AIIMS Portal - new parents and families section.

#18 EBFET Toolkit for LEA's
Session Description: Present the soon-to-be-released EBFET Toolkit. This initiative will focus on supporting the parents and families of Emergent Bilinguals through ongoing, and culturally appropriate stakeholder engagement, such as focus groups, interviews, and family events. With the execution of specific activities, this initiative proposes to increase Emergent Bilingual parent and family satisfaction and awareness related to their child's educational experiences, such as active involvement and opportunities for authentic contributions and feedback with input related to high quality instructional materials (HQIM).

#19 Conecte con su hijo(a) a través del aprendizaje socioemocional/Connect with your child through social-emotional learning
Session Description: Cómo padres, reconocemos el tremendo valor y reconocimiento que se merecen porque son los primeros en cuidar y apoyar a sus hijos. En estos tiempos, nos vemos obligados a enfrentar muchos desafíos nuevos de maneras que no habíamos imaginado. Andamos muy ocupados cuidando a nuestras familias y tratando de mantenerlos saludables y seguros. En esta sesión los padres se familiarizarán con el aprendizaje socioemocional y participarán en actividades prácticas. Algunos ejemplos son hacer comentarios positivos, disfrutar de nuestra cultura, tener seguridad en las redes sociales y conocer sus derechos.
As parents, we recognize the tremendous courage and recognition they deserve because they are the first to care for and support their children. In these times, we are forced to face many new challenges in ways we had not imagined. We are very busy taking care of our families and trying to keep them healthy and safe. In this session, parents will become familiar with social-emotional learning and participate in hands-on activities. Session Description: Emergent bilingual students make up a significant percentage of students in Texas and in the MEP are considered a priority for service. This session will address an overview of EB Services under Title III and maximizing collaboration for student success.

#21 Update on the Continuous Improvement Cycle Focusing on the 2022-23 Evaluation
Session Description: Participants will receive a brief overview of the three phases of the Office of Migrant Education's (OME) Continuous Improvement Cycle. Results from the most recent Texas MEP Evaluation will be reviewed. Information about the 2022-23 Texas MEP evaluation requirements will be discussed in depth. Participants will walk through all data collection instruments including the Fidelity of Strategy Implementation (FSI) to determine the level of implementation of each strategy.
