Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD will continue to offer a limited Virtual Learning Program for the 2022-2023 School Year
Application for this program will open: Thursday, June 9, 2022, and close Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at midnight.
You must be a currently enrolled PSJA ISD student to apply.
Students admitted to the PSJA Virtual Learning Program (PSJA VLP) will be notified of their selection by Monday, June 20, 2022.
Criteria for Admittance includes:
- Achieved satisfactory achievement or higher on each STAAR assessment administered.
- Had a number of unexcused absences, that is 10 percent or fewer out of all instructional days.
- Earned a grade of C or higher in the foundation curriculum courses taken virtually or remotely in the preceding school year. (RLA, Math, Science and Social Studies)
Based on this, the following will be used to accept PSJA VLP participants for the 2022-2023 School Year:
Program Eligibility
- Must be a student in grades 1st – 12th
- Students in grades 3rd to 11th must have achieved an Approaches, Meets, or Masters level in their prior year’s STAAR assessments.
- Students must have achieved a grade of C or higher in RLA (Reading/English), math, social studies, and science.
- Students must have met 90% attendance out of all instructional days in the previous school year.
Program Acceptance
Once accepted, the following must be adhered to in order to remain in the program. Students not meeting the following criteria will be transitioned back to home campus at the end of the 6-weeks marking period:
- Maintain a grade of C or higher on a 6-weeks basis. Progress monitoring will occur at the end of every 6-weeks.
- Must maintain 90% attendance every 6-weeks.
- Must attend in person during Benchmarks, STAAR Assessments, AP Assessments, College Readiness Assessments, and State Screeners.
- Must be engaged in the learning: Must always have camera on during instruction and follow the Student Code of Conduct.
The following are the designated schools of enrollment for PSJA's Virtual Learning Program:
Elementary: Graciela Garcia Elementary School
- One class for each grade level in 1st-5th grade.
- Student will be part of the school’s attendance and accountability.
- Parent will be responsible for transporting student to and from school for all assessments.
Middle School: Jaime Escalante Middle School
- Student will be part of the school’s attendance and accountability.
- Parent will be responsible for transporting student to and from school for all assessments.
High School: PSJA Sonia M. Sotomayor PTECH
- Student will be part of their home school’s attendance and accountability.
- Parent will be responsible for transporting student to and from school for all assessments.
Student Expectations
- Parent/Guardian will ensure student has a space without distractions to engage daily in virtual instruction.
- Parent/Guardian will ensure student is on time, keeps camera on and follows the District's Student Code of Conduct during virtual instruction.
- Parent/Guardian will ensure student wears appropriate school uniform/spirit shirt attire during virtual sessions.

When will I be able to apply for virtual school?

- Decisions will be made by Monday, June 20, 2022
- Mandatory Virtual Parent Meeting will be held the week of June 20, 2022

What happens if my child does not meet six weeks eligibility criteria?
Posted by:Campus staff will contact parents three weeks before the marking period (IPR) to discuss options. If eligibility criteria are not met by the end of the 6 weeks period, student will be transitioned to in-person learning.

What happens if I meet criteria but there is no space available for my child to be enrolled?
Posted by:Student will enroll at their home campus and be placed on a waiting list until space becomes available. All applications will be time-stamped and reviewed on a first come, first served basis.

If my child applies to virtual school, will they have an opportunity to change to in-person?
Posted by:While PSJA ISD needs applications submitted to determine interest in the Virtual Learning Program, to plan appropriately for the
2022-23 school year, submitting an application is not a firm commitment to attend the PSJA's Virtual Learning Program.
Students and families will still have the ability to elect to participate in in-person learning at their home campus.
