Class of 2020 Graduation
As a special way to celebrate our graduates, we will be hosting an optional in-person Graduation Ceremony at our PSJA Stadium with Spirit Drives! 🎓
Participation by a student or family member in a ceremony is voluntary. There will be no rehearsal and no congregating at the stadium or around the field or parking lots before/after the ceremony.
Please note, this is subject to change based on local, state and CDC guidelines.

Students will be lined up 6ft entering South Gate-Visitors Section lining up along the track. The stage area will be set up on the Northside of the field utilizing the screen as the background
1-2 family members will be allowed to join the graduate, this person will line up on the opposite side of the track, standing 6ft apart to capture the moment live
Students/Family Member will exit on the North-Home Side of the Stadium with cars waiting for them lined up on Kelly St. And up Gumwood
Other family members and staff would be watching as part of the LIVE broadcast
Only Top 10 will be in order, all others as they come in
Graduates will be giving Counselor ID Number to pull up Name on-screen as they take their official photo, receive a diploma, move tassel and walk the stage (no shaking hands)
Cap & Gown Order
Ballew Seniors! Please see the attached order form for your Cap & Gowns. You can order online using the website: www.trevinosdigital.com. From there you have to select the “Make a C&G Payment” button on the top of the page. Use the code EB20 to access your online order form. The code is on the order form attached. Once you place the order online, they will get the order ready and contact you to pick it up at the office via curbside service.
National Library Week 2020
February Men's Monday
Last monday, Ballew students attended to our monthly date. This time was turn for boys, they enjoyed with our guest speaker Rikers for his positive message of overcoming obstacles. Thank you for coming to Ballew and share you story with us.
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Students at Elvis J. Ballew participated in an awareness campaign on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2020. They were given information on teen dating violence, warning signs of abuse, teen safety cards, and were able to sign a Relationship Bill of Rights, pledging they understand their rights in a healthy and respectful relationship. Our goal is to spread awareness and stop dating abuse before it starts.
SkillsUsa District 2020 13 Skills and Leadership Competition at TSTC
Congratulations to the following Welding students and to Mr. Guerra for his help and commitment to this program. This weekend our great PSJA CTE students participated in the SkillsUsa District 13 skills and leadership competition held at the TSTC Harlingen campus. The following students participated in the welding project division:
· Jorge Nunez and Jorge De La Cerda BBQ Pit - 1st Place
· Gustavo Garza and Isac Olmedo Surface Outdoor Grill - 1st Place
· Jaime Lopez Welding Furniture - 1st Place
These students will be advancing to the State SkillsUSA competition in Corpus Christi this coming April. Congratulations!!!
February Women's Wednesday
We had so much fun at Women's Wednesday yesterday. It is a pleasure having the presence of Amanda Puryear, a alumna from PSJA Buell Central High School. Now she is a remarkable writer and poet. She is an example of how to be resilient and follow your dreams, no matter where you come from. Thank you for sharing your experience with our students, your words empower students, and staff.
Teacher of the Year 2019/2020
Congratulation to our Teacher of the Year 2019/2020, Mr. Madrilejos for being awarded with this distiction. We recognize his everyday hard work with our students, encouraging them to reach their best.
High School Battle of the Books
PSJA District Library Department held its annual High School Battle of the Books competition on January 23th. Our school was represented by Kevin Gutierrez (team captain) and a student from PSJA Sonia Sotomayor ECHS. They obtained 5th place out of 7 high schools even with the challenge of being 2 members instead of 4. We are really proud of them and a special mention to our librarian, Mrs. Hernandez, for her support. Congratulations to our team!
Regional SeaPerch Challenge
Congratulations to our students that did an amazing job in the Regional SeaPerch Challenge celebrated at UTRGV in the mission of Waterway Clean Up. They scored 8th place out of 35 schools competing with the robot they built in 3 categories: obstacle course, challenge course, and an interview. Thanks to Mr. Madrilejos for leading this excellent team!

Thanksgiving Feast of Sharing 2019
On November 15, PSJA Elvis J. Ballew CCTA celebrated Thanksgiving with our students, and their families. A moment to share with everyone who is involved in students' learning. Turkeys and can bags were raffled for those who attended. Thank you for the staff and teachers who donated the items and prepared this beatiful moment of sharing.
Welding students with our community
The Elvis J. Ballew Welding students began making plans to once again help our community on Thanksgiving Day. So during the month of October and November these student participated in fundraisers to raise money to buy turkeys and canned goods. This annual Thanksgiving meal for people in the PSJA ISD community is a way to show kindness and support.

Math & Biology Camp
PSJA Elvis J. Ballew ECHS is happy to announce that school librarian, Lisa Hernandez, has been nominated for the 2018-2019 LifeChanger of the Year Award.
