PSJA ISD, part of Lower Rio Grande Valley Learning Landscapes Collaborative Designated a Conservation Wrangler by Texan by Nature
Lower Rio Grande Valley Learning Landscapes Collaborative (LRGV LL) has been designated a valued partner as a Conservation Wrangler by Austin-based, nonprofit Texan by Nature for the creation of native habitats as learning centers as part of a multi-school district initiative in South Texas. Founded by former First Lady Laura Bush, Texan by Nature’s mission is to spur Texan-led conservation that produces tangible benefits for people, prosperity, and natural resources by activating new investments in conservation.

PSJA ISD librarian featured in National 2018 Power of Librarians Calendar
A librarian at Pharr-San Juan Alamo ISD (PSJA) has been selected as a winner of the Capstone “The Power of Librarians” National Photo Contest. Amy Marquez, librarian at Marcia Garza Elementary in Alamo, is the only librarian from the Rio Grande Valley and one of 12 librarians in the Nation selected for the contest.

PSJA Memorial Early College HS athlete earns 1st place at Cross Country meet
A PSJA Memorial Early College High School athlete recently earned 1st place at a Cross Country meet held Sept. 23 in Corpus Christi. Cruz Gomez, a junior, earned 1st place out of more than 350 runners in the competition.

PSJA ISD Swimmers among best in Nation
A group of athletes in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) Swim team placed among the top 15 teams in the nation at the AUU Junior Olympic Games in Detroit, Michigan earlier this year.

Mandarin Chinese Program at PSJA receives great reviews from College Board
The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo School District recently hired three teachers from China to expand its Dual Language Enrichment Program by teaching Mandarin Chinese at various district campuses. Representatives from College Board recently visited the schools where it is being implemented to learn firsthand how the program is doing.

In celebration of National Manufacturing Day, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) in collaboration with the Pharr Economic Development Corporation, South Texas Manufacturing Association (STMA) and South Texas College (STC) hosted an event highlighting the life and business of manufacturing in South Texas on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School Cafetorium.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) high school students participated in an annual National Voter Registration Day rally on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Boggus Ford Events Center in Pharr where they learned about the importance of voting and had the opportunity to register onsite.

Seven PSJA schools receive all possible TEA distinctions
Distinction designations are awarded to campuses based on achievement in performance indicators relative to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size, and student demographics. Depending on campus grade levels and type, the number of potential distinction designations can vary.

Eloy Garza, marketing teacher at PSJA Southwest Early College High School has been invited to be RGV Lead and Workforce Solutions keynote speaker for the Regional Education and Workforce Conference to be held Nov. 16-17 at South Padre Island.

Four PSJA Memorial ECHS Students Named to All-State Journalism Staff
Four PSJA Memorial Early College High School students have been named to the 2016-2017 All-State Journalism staff by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). They are Sophomores Zorayda Sanchez and Josefina Martinez, Senior Roxanna Sanchez, and 2017 graduate and current University of Texas Austin student Alyssa Sandoval.

This summer 12 teachers from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) participated in externships at various businesses throughout the community as part of the American Leadership Alliance (ALA) Summer Educator Externships Program.
