PSJA ISD students were some of the 180 participants at his year’s Cello Fest that was held at UTRGV in Edinburg.
The first Cello Fest was in 2011. The festival is open to all participants of all ages and performance level. Students from all over the valley come. There are master classes, workshops, rehearsals, recitals and a concert at the end of the three day event.
Organizer, Tido Janssen, brings clinicians from all over the US and world including Mexico and China. Last year they were honored to have cellist and Grammy winner Mike Block who has played and recorded with Yo-Yo Ma. This year’s clinicians were: Tido Janssen, UTRGV in Edinburg, Katherine Decker from UTRGV Brownsville, Walter Gray from the Seatle Symphony, Andrew Smith from the University of Nevada, Cornelia Watkins from Rice University and author of “Rosindust” and Efrain Mungia director at PSJA Southwest.
