The City of San Juan and San Juan EDC will be hosting the Noche de Paz Festival 2014. The event will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2014 located at San Juan Municipal Park, 508 W. Bus. 83-San Juan from 12PM-10PM. There will be food vendors, arts & crafts vendors, beer barn, Santa’s Workshop, carnival ($20 all you can ride), (pre-sale at the Parks & Rec. Dept. $15), snow at 3PM ($5 until it melts) & a parade at 6:00PM (line-up at 4PM) beginning at City Hall.

The PSJA Southwest Theatre Dept. won big at the Austin Anderson TFA Tournament held in Austin Tx on Sept. 27. Against some stiff competition around the Austin/San Antonio area, students from Southwest Theatre held their own in various acting events from Duet to Humorous and Dramatic. Rosario Guillen and Natalie Di Grazia placed 1st in Duo Acting qualifying them to TFA State held in El Paso Texas March 4-7. In only our second Tournament of the season, this is the fastest any student has ever qualified to TFA State! Rosario Guillen also placed 5th in Humorous Acting (4 points away to qualify to State in Humorous), while Mary Arellano placed 7th in Dramatic Acting (only 6 points away to qualify to State) with Julie Reed also placing 6th in Poetry. A huge congratulations to all PSJA Southwest Theatre students who competed at the Austin Anderson TFA Tounrament!
Boston-based organization Jobs for the Future (JFF) unveiled a new publication during the National Early College Conference in Dallas Dec. 9, highlighting the work of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD.
PSJA ISD Librarian Lisa Hernandez was recently awarded the South Texas Literacy Coalition Literary Excellence Award for School Librarians at their annual gala at the Valencia Events Center Oct. 11. Marcia R. Garza Elementary Librarian Amy Marquez was also honored as a finalist.
Over 250 educators from both PK-12 and institutions of higher education were part of this first conference held at the McAllen Convention Center Oct. 23 and 24.
ALAMO – Joan Cepeda, a senior at PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College HS and athlete for the PSJA Memorial Wolverines signed a letter of intent to be part of the Sam Houston State University track & field team Nov. 12 at PSJA Memorial’s library accompanied by her family, friends and district staff.
