Congratulations to Coach Marco Guajardo, in his 8 years coaching with PSJA High School he has earned a District title 6 out of 8 times. Bears playoff games start off this friday May 6 against Roma Gladiators in Roma at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at PSJA field at 11:00 a.m. Come out and support the BEARS!!!
Diego Luis Caballero, a senior at PSJA Early College High School will be attending the US Naval Academy this fall.The AP Scholar, who will be graduating as part of the Distinguished Achievement Program this May, was accepted to all three prestigious military academies: US Naval Academy, US Military Academy WestPoint and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado.He decided to attend the Naval Academy in Maryland because it would allow him to receive a world class moral, academic and physical education."Ever since I was a boy I have had the desire to serve my country and protect the ones I love," said Caballero. "In the future, I plan to become a Naval Aviator or a Navy Surface Warfare Officer." Caballero will be joining the Academy after graduating from PSJA as part of the Top 5% and with an Associate Degree in Mathematics from South Texas College. He is a National Hispanic Merit Scholar, was a Boys State delegate, a Regional Qualifier for Swimming, and 2-year Letterman for Cross-Country and Track. He was also recently selected as the Rotary Student of the Month, was a District Champion in the UIL Calculator event and crowned the school's Homecoming King."Throughout my high school career PSJA has allowed me to grow mentally and mature as a young man. I would like to thank all of the amazing teachers, coaches and other faculty members that continually pushed and inspired me to attain my dreams," he said.The best of luck and congratulations to Diego as he embarks on this journey!
MR. ANDRES ZAMORA , ELA TEACHER AT PSJA ECHS GETS PUBLISHED IN THE ENGLISH JOURNAL FOR THE MARCH 2016 ISSUE. WHILE IN GRAD SCHOOL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS PAN AMERICAN. MR. ZAMORA PUBLISHED A BOOK REVIEW BASED ON "RESPONDING TO STUDENT WRITING" BY NANCY SOMMERS. MR. ZAMORA SAYS THIS HELPED HIM WITH DIFFERENT WRITING STRATEGIES, AND TAUGHT HIM TO BE MORE HELPFUL WHEN ENCOURAGING HIS OWN STUDENTS TO WRITE. HE LEARNED THAT IT IS IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO FEEL FREE TO WRITE WHAT THEY FEEL AND NOT TO BE DISCOURAGED BY THEIR TEACHERS CRITIQUES.
PSJA ECHS Choir earns top awards at this year competition.This is the 1st year our Choir has made a 1 on stage, not only did they earn a 1 on stage, but they also earned a 1 in Sightreading, earning the only Sweepstakes in the district!! Congratulations Choir for coming out on TOP earning a Varsity status.
The 11th Annual Criminal Justice competition that took place at the Southwest Junior College, in Uvalde, Texas April 22nd and 23rd the competition began early at 7:00 am and lasted till 6:00 pm. P.SJ.A ECHS Criminal Justice Team TACSAR (Tactical Search and Rescue) competed against 36 other Teams consisting of High schools and Police explorer programs. All the team members pushed hard and trained even harder to go up against state champions and reigning champions. Two of our students, Braxton Searle and Anthony Salinas teamed up and were able to place 3rd overall in the Patdown, Frisk Search and Arrest category. These students were able to stand tall and know their training had paid off, showing their metals received to the other explorer programs and schools. We will have returning Seniors next year to train the upcoming teams to be better prepared and become victorious .
PSJA Bears HOSA students attended HOSA Texas State Leadership Conference at Galveston this past week. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the following students, Nayelie Aguirre and Samantha Jo Garza who got State Recognition for their HOSA Newsletter and will be going to Nationals on July 22nd-25 in Nashville, Tennessee. Diego Washington and Sarah Champion placed 5th in CPR/FIRST AID. We are extremely proud of them and would like to thank PSJA Administration and CTE Staff for their support! GO BEARS!
Congratulations to the PSJA ECHS Boys Mile Relay team for qualifying to the Regional meet to be held in San Antonio April 28-30. Team members consist of Rafael Cantu, Jimmy Maldonado, Joachim Almaguer, Danny Diaz. We will be competing at 12:30 on Friday in alamo stadium in San Antonio
Congratulations to our PSJA ECHS Destination Imagination musical mash up team. After winning Regional Champs they represented the valley Saturday at the State tournament and placed 4th and will now represent PSJA at the Global Finals in Tennessee. Congratulations goes out to the Lady Bears Tennis for winning district. The Lady Bears are District Champs and advance to the Regional Meet . Team Members consists of Mariah West , Giselle Perez , Valery Barrios , Ashley Tapia , Erika Almaguer , Abby Flores , Gabby Aleman. The Regional Meet will be in San Antonio April 19-22. Great Job lady Bears and Congrats to Coach De Luna and Coach Ramos for all your hard work and dedication to Tennis and PSJA. The last time the Lady Bears made District Champs was in 2007.

Congratulations to the Mighty UIL Math Team for their impressive victories at the UIL District meet held at Edcouch Elsa. In Computer Science Caleb Shircliff won 2nd place in Number Sense and Damian Luna won 3rd place in Number Sense. In Calculator Diego Caballero wins 1st place and Caleb Shirchliff wins 2nd, and Humberto Grimaldo won 3rd and Karina Quintana won 4th place. In Math Caleb Shircliff wins 1st place, Humberto Grimaldo wins 2nd place and Damian Luna won 3rd place and Karina Quintana wins 4th place.
Mrs. Enciso's Graphic Design students participated in a Region One Technology logo contest for the 2016 Technology Conference with over 200 logos that were submitted throughout the whole Region. The Technology Conference Planning Committee has voted on the logo submissions and we are proud to announce this years winner is Erick Gonzalez . Erick's logo will be will be used as the Technology logo campaign 2016. Over 900 bags and t-shirts were order for all in attendance at the Technology Conference. Erick's logo will be placed on all the bags and T-shirts. Erick will also receive beats headphones, a shirt. Congratulations Erick Gonzalez
